Aarhus is a lovely city to bike in.
Invest in a bike, it’s actually quite important. It’s a smart way to get around and offers so many benefits. Aarhus is uncommon in that there are many hills – they’re not very big but they’re still there. Whether you invest in a decent or high end bike is up to you, but think about how long you’re planning on staying. If you’re planning to stay for a long time, investing in a new, good quality bike would probably be a good solution. On the other hand, if you’re staying for just a few months, buying a new bike may not be the best solution, especially if you can’t bring it back home with you. In this case, it may be best to find a decent used bike, which can be found for quite cheap.
What about a city bike?
Aarhus, like a couple others Danish cities, has bikes parked around various locations in the city. It’s definitely a better idea to have your own, but this can be a good solution if you’re only going to use a bike on rare occasions, or if you’re in town for only a couple of hours or days. Aarhus decided to make city bikes free because they want to provide an alternative method of transportation for the city’s citizens and tourists, which is pretty spectacular. There is a deposit of 20 DKK to borrow a city bike. If you want to get your deposit back, you must drop your bike off at one of the stands – it doesn’t have to be the same one you took it from. The city has 56 special bike stands. For more information go here.
